Abberdeen Avelar joined Ally in 2019 as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA). She has worked with the pediatric population for 5 years and with children with Autism Spectrum Disorders for 3. Abberdeen was introduced to this field when she started working for Arizona Autism United as a habilitation provider and ABA IT providing early childhood intervention during her undergrad.
Abberdeen attended Arizona State University, where she obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Speech and Hearing Science. She earned her Speech-Language Pathology Assistant certificate from ASU’s SLPA program. Abberdeen completed her SLPA internship in a variety of settings including, an accent modification clinic, a pediatric communication clinic, where she helped children ages 2-5 work on different aspects of communication (articulation, phonology, language), and an elementary school, where she helped provide speech therapy in a special education preschool-6th grade.
Ally Pediatric Therapy has provided Abberdeen the opportunity to combine her interests in Speech-Language Pathology and Applied Behavior Analysis in order to help more children improve what she believes is one of the most important aspects of life, Communication! Abberdeen will be starting her Master’s degree in the Fall of 2019 at Arizona State University, where she will be studying Special Education (Applied Behavior Analysis). Her favorite part of working in this field is seeing a child’s progress and the positive impact it has on their and their families lives.
